Shelley Thomas-Brown
Musical Director

Educated at Bridgend Girls Grammar School and Brynteg Comprehensive, Shelley Thomas-Brown graduated with honours in Music at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1980. She has been the Musical Director of the choir since 1985. Shelley leads the teaching of music at Maesteg Comprehensive School near Bridgend and is very active with the school's choirs and orchestras. She arranges music prolifically for the choir and lists amongst her interests; horse-riding, good food and wine not necessarily in that order.

Sandra Williams
Accompanist

Educated at Cowbridge High School for Girls, Sandra Williams gained a Bachelor of Education degree in Music and Education at Trinity College, Carmarthen. She has been associated with the Choir since October 1971 and has been the Accompanist ever since. Sandra is currently teaching Welsh and Music throughout the school in St. Brides Major Church in Wales Primary School near Bridgend. She lives to the west of Bridgend with her husband John who is a tenor with the choir. She enjoys traveling, gardening and the occasional bottle of wine.

Iona Jones
Honorary President

At the end of 2005 we were delighted when Iona agreed to become the Choir’s new Honorary President. Iona is recognized as one of Wales’ leading sopranos having had over twenty years’ experience performing in  concerts and oratorios at home and abroad with frequent television appearances on S4C. In August 2000 at the Llanelli National Eisteddfod she crowned her competitive career by winning the the prestigious David Ellis memorial prize – the Blue Riband.

She is in demand as a guest artist and has toured extensively as soloist with choirs appearing at such prestigious venues as Sydney Opera House and New York’s Carnegie Hall. In 1995 she was guest soloist for Cowbridge Male Voice Choir’s silver jubilee tour of Ontario.

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Goldsmiths’ College university of London, and also holds an LRAM diploma for the teaching of singing.
